HTTP Joins the White House, Civic Nation, and National Partners for ACP Week of Action

Close your eyes right now, and imagine the world we live in, but suddenly your access to the internet was cut off. Think about all the things you need the internet for: that Zoom meeting earlier, connecting with your doctor, completing that homework assignment, or simply staying in touch with distant family members over Facebook. Well, that world you imagined is the reality for million American households that still lack high-speed internet access. This issue is what academics and policy wonks call the “Digital Divide.” It disproportionately impacts low-income families, people of color, and rural areas, perpetuating a cycle of inequity.

The good news is that the federal government is hard at work with the states in implementing the Affordable Connectivity Program (“ACP”). The ACP offers eligible households a $30/month discount for their internet bill. Individuals can also apply the discount to their current internet plan or any plan offered by participating providers. See which ones here. Some providers are even offering plans for as low as $30, so with the ACP discount, your internet bill could possibly be free!

Here at HTTP, we recognize that enrolling in a government program can seem daunting. That is why we created our bilingual ACP Para Mi resource guide. ACP Para Mi offers bilingual social media images, printable postcards, and user-friendly resources that walks you through the enrollment process and helps you determine what internet service plan best fits your family’s needs.Fortunately, the government has made enrolling in the ACP straightforward. Our guide can help you and your Spanish speaking loved ones understand the process and have questions answered. You can also go directly to getinternet.gov to get started!

Make sure to share the word about the ACP! It is important that we connect these 28 million households to the internet in order to close the digital divide. As more and more households get connected to the internet, their opportunities will flourish and our economy will be bolstered. Check out HTTP’s ACP Para Mi resources for more information.

We are excited to partner this week with Civic Nation and the White house on the #OnlineforAll week of action and are committed to working to closing the digital divide for our community.
